Energy Storage

The reservoir and water inlet/outlet facilitate electricity storage, based on the Pumped Hydro Storage principle: excess electricity is used to pump water from the reservoir to the sea, and electricity is generated when water from the sea flows into the reservoir through the hydraulic turbines. The storage function balances the power generation and consumption on the island, but can also participate in external markets such as the transmission grid services market and the power market.
